Black Soldier Fly Waste Management
Transforming organic waste into high-value biomass and verified carbon credits across Kenya
This project deploys Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae technology to intercept organic waste — food scraps, market waste, and agricultural residue — before it reaches open landfills. When organic waste decomposes in unmanaged dumps, it releases methane, a greenhouse gas 28 times more potent than CO₂. By diverting that waste into a controlled bioconversion process, the project generates measurable, verifiable GHG avoidance while producing protein-rich insect meal, insect oil, and organic frass fertiliser as valuable commercial outputs. Every tonne of waste diverted becomes both a climate asset and an economic one.

Cycle Time
Perfect for households, markets & agribusiness
Organic waste is collected and fed to BSF larvae in controlled rearing beds. Larvae consume and convert the material within 10–14 days, dramatically reducing waste volumes before any landfill contact occurs.

Harvested prepupae are processed into insect protein meal and oil. Residual frass is dried and sold as premium organic fertiliser, creating multiple revenue streams alongside verified carbon credits.
benefits
Community & Environmental Impact
Methane Avoidance
Direct GHG reduction from diverting waste away from open landfill decomposition
Protein Circularity
Insect meal replaces conventional fishmeal, reducing pressure on marine fisheries
Soil Health
Frass fertiliser enriches depleted agricultural soils without synthetic inputs
Job Creation
Local employment across collection, rearing, processing, and distribution
Cleaner Communities
Reduced open dumping improves urban and peri-urban living environments
Ready to Scale Impact?
Ready to scale across the region. We’re seeking developers and investors to expand this proven Black Soldier Fly waste management model into new villages and farming systems.
