Community Mangrove Restoration
A coastal community restoring a degraded mangrove belt to generate premium Blue Carbon credits and protect their shoreline
Mangroves are among the most carbon-dense ecosystems on Earth — sequestering up to five times more carbon per hectare than tropical rainforests and locking it in deep, waterlogged soils for centuries. This project, led by a coastal community that depends on the mangrove belt for fisheries and shoreline protection, actively replants and restores a degraded stretch of coastline. Community members serve as trained mangrove guardians, monitoring seedling survival and protecting the restoration zone. Beyond carbon sequestration, the project delivers rebuilt fish nursery habitat, reduced coastal erosion, and improved resilience to storm surges.

Community & Environmental Impact
Coastal Protection
Mangrove belt absorbs storm surge energy and prevents shoreline erosion
Fisheries Restoration
Rebuilt nursery habitat replenishes nearshore fish stocks for fishing communities
Long-Term Sequestration
Soil carbon locked in sediments for centuries — durable, verifiable removal
Women's Employment
Women and youth form the core planting and monitoring workforce
Biodiversity
Restored canopy supports diverse bird, marine, and terrestrial species
